6 Troubleshooting
6.1 Problems and their solutions
Problem Cause Remedy
Marked drop in
pressure Leak in the system. Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.5, page 13).
Marked rise in pres-
sure Inline filter (6.2821.120)
blocked. Replace the filter (6.2821.130) (see Chapter
5.6, page 56).
Guard column – blocked. Replace guard column (see Chapter 3.14,
page 35).
Separation column –
blocked. ￭ Regenerate separation column (see Chap-
ter 5.10.4, page 61).
￭ Replace separation column (see "Connect-
ing and rinsing the separation column",
page 38).
Note: Samples should always be microfiltered
(see Chapter 5.8, page 58).
Injection valve – valve
blocked. Have the valve cleaned (by Metrohm service
technicians).
Drift of the baseline Leak in the system. Check all capillary connections and seal leaks,
if necessary (see Chapter 3.5, page 13).
Eluent – Evaporation of the
organic solvent in the elu-
ent. ￭ Check the eluent bottle attachment (see
Figure 10, page 22).
￭ Stir the eluent.
Peak areas lower
than expected Sample – leak in the sam-
ple path. Check the sample path.
Sample – blockage in the
sample path. Check the sample path.
Sample – sample loop not
(completely) filled. Prolong the sample transfer time.
Very noisy baseline High pressure pump – con-
taminated pump valves. Clean pump valves (see Chapter 5.5.2, page
46).
Eluent – Leak in the eluent
path. Check the eluent path.
