Connector Kits

(Cat. No. 8510SA-CMRC, 8510SA-CMRS)

Introduction

Connections to the motor feedback resolver inside the motor terminal box
are performed through an AMP Dynamic Series connector. Two types of
connector kits are available, providing either crimp or solder type wire
terminations. This publication will provide the information needed to
properly install these kits.

Using the information below, verify that the correct kit has been received.

Refer to the 8510 User Manual, publication 8510-5.1 for detailed
information about the cable required and the connector pin assignments for
each of the motor types.

Assembling the Connector/Cable

The following procedure outlines the steps needed to install the connector.

1. Verify that the connector kit includes the connector body and the

correct number of pins.

2. Remove the cable insulation and strip back the shields approximately

50 mm (2”). Strip about 4 mm (3/16”) of insulation from each wire.

3. Crimp type pins – an AMP crimp tool (#90683-1 or #914595-2) is

required to properly crimp the pins to the wires. A pin extraction tool
(AMP #914677-1) is required to remove a pin from the housing. Both
of the above items are available from Allen-Bradley as part of the
8510SA-CTA Crimp Tool Kit.

Solder type pins – insert the wire into the small loop of the pin. Apply
solder as shown in Figure 1. Bend tab over insulation as shown.
Note: Double faced tape can be used as an aid to hold pins in place
while soldering.
