This document shows how to replace or upgrade the CPU card in a 6181
Industrial Computer. The CPU replacement or upgrade kit consists of:
The CPU card with the specified processor and heat sink
BIOS upgrade diskette
This instruction sheet
The process of installing the CPU upgrade involves:
Changing the jumper setting on the new CPU card
Removing the existing CPU card and installing the new one,
Installing the BIOS upgrade.
The 6181 Industrial Computer contains line voltages. Make sure you
disconnect all power to the 6181 Industrial Computer before performing
any of the operations described in this chapter.
ATTENTION: Disconnect all power from the 6181
Industrial Computer before removing components.
Failure to disconnect power could result in severe
electrical shock or damage to the 6181 Industrial
Computer.
Internal 6181 Industrial Computer components may be damaged by
Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Make sure you wear a grounding strap
whenever handling circuit boards, memory modules or other internal
components.
ATTENTION: Wear a wrist strap (well grounded) and
perform work in a static safe environment.
Electrostatic discharge can damage the 6181 Industrial
Computer and components.
