8- Remove sealing plug from open end of Data Link connector and insert the 4 pin Deutsch connector of the VFI Sub-Harness into the Data Link

connector.

9- Gather any extra length of the VFI Sub-Harness and secure it with wire ties.

Serial Number 24236 or Lower
Softail® Models (VFI Serial Number 24236 or Lower):
1- Locate the TSM/TSSM behind the sub-fender of the rear tire. Disconnect the 12-Pin Deutsch® connector by pressing the latches on each side

and then use a rocking motion to separate the connector from the TSM/TSSM.

2- Insert the tip of a flat-blade screwdriver under the locking wedge of the connector. Be careful not to damage the rubber connector seal. Twist

the screwdriver 90 degrees to separate the locking wedge from the connector body. See Picture 3.

3- Remove the sealing plug found in location #10 at the back of the connector (terminal location numbers can be found on the back of the

connector). Save this plug for reuse.

IMPORTANT! Deutsch connectors are constructed with small latches within the connector body designed to retain the terminals within the
connector. These must be separated from the terminals during terminal removal. This may be done by inserting the tip of a small flat-blade
screwdriver between the latch and the terminal and twisting the screwdriver slightly to pry the latch from the terminal. Do not use excessive force
when removing terminals from Deutsch connectors, otherwise damage to the wire and/or connector body may occur.

4- Remove the wire and terminal in location #3 and insert it into location #10. This should be a light green wire with a violet stripe. When installing

the terminal, lightly press it into the connector until you hear it click into place. A light pull on the wire will confirm correct installation.

5- Replace the Deutsch connector locking wedge. The locking wedge will click into place when properly inserted.
6- Install the sealing plug removed in Step 3 into location #3 of the connector.
7- Reconnect the 12-Pin Deutsch connector to the TSM/TSSM and reinstall in motorcycle.

Touring Models (VFI Serial Number 24236 or Lower):
1- Locate the 8A/8B harness connector behind the right side access panel. See Picture 4. Disconnect the 12-pin Deutsch connector at the 8A/8B

interconnect harness by pressing the latches on each side of the connector, then use a rocking motion to separate the connector from the
harness.

2- Insert the tip of a flat-blade screwdriver under the locking wedge of the connector. Be careful not to damage the rubber connector seal. Twist

the screwdriver 90 degrees to separate the locking wedge from the connector body. See Picture 3.

3- From the 8A socket connector of the fuel injection wiring harness, remove the sealing plug found in location #4 at the wire entrance end of the

connector (terminal location numbers can be found on the back of the connector). Save this plug for reuse. Note: the 8A socket connector is
the smaller of the two connectors.

4- Remove the wire and terminal in location #11 and insert it into location #4. This should be a light green wire with a violet stripe. When installing

the terminal, lightly press it into the connector until you hear it click into place. A light pull on the wire will confirm correct installation.

5- Replace the Deutsch connector locking wedge. The locking wedge will click into place when properly inserted.
6- Install the sealing plug removed in Step 3 into location #11 of the connector.
7- Reconnect the 12-Pin Deutsch connectors of the 8A/8B connector assembly.

Module Installation
1- Push the 36-pin connector straight onto the end of the VFI module until the connector lock clicks into place.
2- Install the VFI module in the same location as the stock ECM using the original mounting hardware.
3- Reconnect the negative battery cable.
4- Before starting the motorcycle power must be cycled to allow the Idle Air Control (stepper) motor to recalibrate. To cycle the power, turn the

ignition switch on with the run/stop switch in the “run” position then turn the ignition switch off and allow at least 15 seconds for the module
to completely power down.

5- In most instances, the VFI module will be pre-programmed. If the VFI module included in this kit has not been programmed, this will be

indicated by a label on the VFI module. If the VFI module has not been programmed, proceed with ProTune II Software Installation followed by
the Loading a Calibration section of this instruction sheet. If the VFI module has been programmed, proceed with the next step.
