ADDITIONAL PARTS REqUIRED
In most instances, the VFI module will be pre-programmed. If the VFI module included in this kit has not been programmed, this will be indicated
by a label on the VFI module.
If programming or calibration is required, the following items are needed:
• A PC capable of running the included ProTune II software (see minimum requirements in the Pro Tune II Software Installation section).
• A free 9-Pin serial COM port or USB to serial converter.
IMPORTANT! Most modern laptop PCs are not equipped with a serial port. Before installing this kit, be sure that your PC has an available serial port
or USB to serial converter compatible with your operating system. See USB to Serial Converter Information for more details.
OPTIONAL ACCESSORIES
All S&S VFI modules are capable of closed-loop fuel control. Optional Closed Loop Oxygen Sensor kits are available for S&S Delphi® Style and Magneti
Marelli® Style VFI modules.
The S&S part number for the Closed Loop Oxygen Sensor kit to be used with the VFI module described in this instruction sheet is listed below:
106-2066 – For use with Delphi Style S&S VFI Modules
•
NOTE: Some VFI module kits are packaged with a closed loop oxygen sensor kit. If that is the case, it is recommended that you first install the VFI module
and verify communication with your PC before proceeding with the installation of the closed loop oxygen sensor kit.
INSTALLATION
VFI Module Installation
NOTE: Included in this kit are components used to cover the serial port of the VFI module (o-rings, cover, and 2 screws). After the module is installed and
any required work with the ProTune II software is complete, install these components before it is put into service. This is required to protect the module
from the elements.
Stock ECM Removal
1- Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2- Refer to the appropriate H-D® service manual to remove the OEM module and disconnect it from the motorcycle. Save the mounting hardware
for reuse.
Wiring Harness Preparation
The bank angle function of the TSM/TSSM is a very important safety feature. The S&S VFI module will not function without the TSM/TSSM bank
angle feature. This section outlines how the motorcycle wiring must be modified to enable the bank angle feature. See Picture 2 to determine the
appearance of the motorcycle’s TSM/TSSM.
1- Check the serial number on the S&S VFI module. This is usually found on the back side/mounting surface of the module and on the warranty
card included with the module. If the serial number cannot be located, it can also be accessed by connecting to the ProTune II software.
2- Follow the instructions outlined below based on the VFI module’s serial number.
NOTE: Automatic Turn Signal cancellation will no longer function with VFI modules serial number 24236 or lower.
