Using a backup
Whereas CF card archives represent a complete data base, USB sticks are designed for the
backup of individual IPC components.
An advantage of the use of backups is the automatic backup functionality when booting
up the industrial PC. Unlike CF card archiving, the USB stick is not to be removed from the
industrial PC.
The term "Backup" describes the following process:
When creating a backup using a USB stick as storage medium on your industrial PC,
components are copied from your CF card to the USB stick.
The restore of a backup on your industrial PC is called "Restore". Backups stored on a
USB stick can additionally be transferred from the USB stick to an engineering PC.
The contents of a backup can be configured:
A backup may contain maximally four IPC components:
Operating system; boot loader
Lenze software
System configuration
Data
Note!
Risk of data loss!
When duplicating or restoring a CF card, the data carrier is formatted and made
bootable. When a USB stick is selected, the USB stick is afterwards no longer
suitable for being used on an industrial PC!
The storage medium selected in Backup & Restore must correspond to the
storage medium physically available!
