Fitting the optional insulating plugs and radiation shield
For optimum temperature uniformity insulating plugs or radiation shields should be placed in the
work tube ends as shown in
and
. With an extended work tube
the stem (8) of the insulation plug assembly lines up with the end of the work tube.
If a gas/vacuum end seal is fitted (4), either horizontally or vertically, the insulation plug hooks
onto the end seal hook; see
Alignment of radiation shields is similar to that of insulation plugs see
If a metal work tube is being used in the furnace, ensure that it is earthed. See the safety warning
in section 3.5.
