CHEVY V8 ENGINE MOUNTS TO
CHEROKEE XJ VEHICLES
INSTALLATION PROCEDURES:
The original motor mounts will need to be removed from the frame rails and the new mounts must be bolted into position
using the original bolts. We recommend trial fitting the engine mounts into position for possible modification to the
gussets on the engine mount portion of the block mount. We have found some variation as to the frame rail width which
changes the bolting location. If your mounts cannot be easily fit to the engine, it may be necessary to modify the gussets
that are welded to the frame brackets. Contact the factory for additional assistance.
The engine mounts will set the GM V8 at a height that will allow minimum hood clearance. Engines equipped with throttle
body fuel injection, will need to modify the air cleaner. The new mounts will position the engine so that minimum
suspension clearance between the front suspension arms and lower engine will be insufficient. A suspension lift is
required on all engine installations.
A transfer case linkage mount will be necessary in order to provide a pivot point for the transfer case control lever.
Advance Adapter shifter bracket No. 715524 will provide the necessary linkage mounting for TH350 and 700R-4
transmission conversions.
FUEL PUMPS:
When installing a TPI or Throttle Body engine, you will need to install a high pressure fuel pump. The new pump can
be installed into the fuel tank or the In-Line Holley fuel pump can be used as an alternative.
TRANSFER CASE LINKAGE:
The original linkage was equipped with a bracket that slipped under two (2) of the transfer case stud bolts. It will be
necessary that you extend the original bracket outward approximately 1" to permit clearance around the GM TH350
governor cover. This can be easily performed by simply welding two small pieces of bracket material to the original
bracket. The linkage rod will not need any modifications. We offer a shifter bracket Kit No. 715524 that will simplify
this operation.
TRANSMISSION LINKAGE:
In the center portion of the transmission tunnel, back towards the transfer case, you will find a pivot linkage bracket
that was used for column shifters that control the original automatic transmission. In order to get the new engine
assembly into position, this bracket must be removed.
SUSPENSION LIFTS:
A suspension lift is mandatory in order to have the proper suspension clearance. Failure to use a suspension lift will not
give the proper engine clearance which will cause both engine and suspension damage.
NOTE:
Due to the various stock engines
and transmission combinations
driveline modifications may be
required when installing the new
GM V8.
The GM rubber mount supplied in this kit may
be a tight fit between the tabs on our mount. If so
slightly squeeze the two tabs on the GM mount
closer together for a proper fit to the Advance
Adapters mount. These GM mounts supplied
sometimes vary in widths from the manufacture.
