void any possible warranty or return privileges. If you do not fully understand modifications or changes that will be required to complete your conversion, we strongly recommend
that you contact our sales department for more information. This instruction sheet is only to be used for the assembly of Advance Adapter components. We recommend that a
service manual pertaining to your vehicle be obtained for specific torque values, wiring diagrams and other related equipment. These manuals are normally available at automotive
dealerships and parts stores.
JEEP T176 TOP LOADER 4 SPEED:
The Jeep Top Loader transmission that is compatible with the Advance Adapters kits must have a case length of 10-1/4"
and the material must be aluminum. The casting part numbers should be #2604203. The gear shift cover is mounted on
top of the case with 10 bolts and is also made of aluminum.
This kit is designed for use with the original Jeep T176 output shaft. This transmission was used on Jeep vehicles 1980-
86, and must be equipped with a 23 spline output shaft. The original Jeep transfer case adapter would have been 2-5/8"
long and will not be required when using this adapter, Kit No. 50-4101.
This kit is designed for the Jeep T176 "Top Loader" 4 speed for installation into Jeep vehicles 1987 to 1990. The overall
length of the new transmission assembly will be 17-1/4" and will directly replace the Peugeot and AX5 transmissions.
On installations using a 2 piece main shaft, make sure that the coupler and the output shaft do not bottom out. We have
found on occasion that a transmission output shaft may be slightly longer than we have allowed for and when coupling
into our new spud shaft, we find a small amount of interference. The adapter housing and spud shaft must be assembled
to the back of the transmission without interference.
DO NOT FORCE THE NEW TAILHOUSING ONTO THE
TRANSMISSION.

The bottom of the new adapter has been provided with the same identical bolt pattern as the original AX5 or Peugeot
transmission. The original mounting location can be retained.
When this transmission is going to be used with an AMC 6 cylinder or V8 engine, you must use Jeep bellhousing No. 8133951
with tapped holes for 4 speed and Advance Adapter special pilot bushing No. 716156. The clutch disc should be changed
to a 10-1/2" Centerforce No. 383271 that has a 1-1/8" spline size. Peugeot transmissions already have same spline size.
This adapter kit is supplied for New Process transfer cases with 23 splines.
