SPECIAL NOTE:

The components packaged in this kit have been assembled and machined for specific type of conversions. Modifications to any of the

components will void any possible warranty or return privileges. If you do not fully understand modifications or changes that will be required to complete
your conversion, we strongly recommend that you contact our sales department for more information. This instruction sheet is only to be used for the assembly
of Advance Adapter components. We recommend that a service manual pertaining to your vehicle be obtained for specific torque values, wiring diagrams
and other related equipment. These manuals are normally available at automotive dealerships and parts stores.

SAGINAW 3 & 4 SPEED 1967-1982

This transmission can be identified by a cast iron case that is 9-3/4" long and a side cover having 7 bolts. The reverse
shift lever will be coming out of the side cover. The front bearing retainer will have a diameter of 4.648" which will require
the transmission to be used with car-type bellhousings.

This adapter kit is for the General Motors Saginaw 3 & 4 speed transmissions The new shaft included with this adapter
will fit all models from 1967 to 1982. The new adapter plate is a direct copy of the original tailhousing that your
transmission was equipped with. The only exception is the bearing size has been increased from a No. 207 to a No. 307.
This requires a different thrust washer to be used between first gear and the main output bearing. Make sure that first
gear end clearance is between .030 and .060 clearance. The Saginaw transmissions weakest point is the clearance between
first gear. Advance Adapters has allowed extra end clearance to prevent first gear from galling your new main shaft The
new main shaft's position is determined by the fixed gear in the transfer case. If the transfer case gear is not installed
properly with the bearing retainer and bearing, then the position of the new main shaft in your transmission will be
incorrect. The total overall length of the transmission and adapter will be 10-1/2" long and will replace Jeep 3 speed
transmissions originally equipped with Chevy V8 adapters. This will eliminate the need for drive shaft modifications on
some installations. The adapter has provisions for mounting an optional crossmember mount as illustrated. Depending
on the exact vehicle that this transmission is being installed into, you may require modifications to the clutch linkage,
overdrive shifter bracket and transfer case control linkage.

A new thrust washer, part No. 716035, has been included in this kit in order to replace the original thrust washer that had
the smaller inside diameter. This thrust washer provides protection from first gear thrusting against the rear bearing.

The adapter is set up for use with a Hurst Competition Plus shifter that can be assembled by using shifter bracket No.
715506. This bracket will accept all Hurst shifters. Special shifter linkage will be required since the shift tower location
is so much further forward than on two wheel drive installations. Advance Adapter offers a rod kit No. 715628, for use
with this transmission.

A special stud bolt and seal washer #723750 have been provided for the inner transfer case bolt location. The stud must
be installed in the transfer case and the nut and seal washer must be

progressively

installed as the transmission adapter

is assembled to the transfer case. Tightening of the nut is difficult and a special modified open end wrench may be required.
