JPI Hastaloy-X probes may read as much as 100°F higher than
the factory installed TIT probe. However, note that the engine
was certified with the factory-installed TIT probe and gauge, and
this gauge reading is the limiting factor when adjusting your
engine.
The user can assign the nine graphs in the bar graphs section to
the desired measurements .
Most measurements can be excluded from the Automatic mode.
Shock Cooling
Cooling the cylinders too fast can result in cracking and eventual failure.
Lycoming Service Instruction 1094D (March 25, 1994) on Fuel Mixture
Leaning Procedures states:
“At all times, caution must be taken not to shock cool the cylinders. The
maximum recommended temperature change should not exceed 50°F
per minute.”
JPI checks shock cooling on all cylinders displaying the highest reading
cylinder.
