Problems starting up?
If you don
’t see anything on the screen, check these items to see
if you can identif
y the problem:
n
Is the computer fir
m
ly plugged into a power source? If it is
plugged into a power strip, is the power strip tur
ned on?
n
Is the computer itself tur
ned on? Check to see if the power
-on
light on the front of your computer is green. If it’s not, you
need to tur
n the computer on, using the main power switch
at the back of the computer
.
n
Is the k
eyboard cable connected cor
rectly? (Don
’t disconnect
the k
eyboard cable while your computer is on. Y
ou could
damage your equipment.)
n
If you have an exter
nal hard disk attached to your computer
,
is that hard disk tur
ned on? W
as it tur
ned on before you
tur
ned on the computer? If you’re not sure, tur
n ever
ything
off as described in “T
ur
ning the Computer On and Off
.” Then
tur
n on the exter
nal hard disk before you tur
n on your
computer
.
n
If you see a blinking question mark, you’ll need to install
system sof
tware. Go to Chapter 8 of the
Macintosh User
’s
Guide
for instr
uctions on installing system sof
tware from
floppy disks. Mak
e sure that the label of the
Install Me F
irst
disk says it is for your Macintosh model.
Safety instr
uctions
For your own safety and that of your equipment, always tak
e the
following precautions.
Tu
rn
off the computer completely and disconnect the power plug
(by pulling the plug, not the cord) if any of the following
conditions exists:
n
the power cord or plug becomes frayed or other
wise
damaged
n
you spill something into the case
n
your Macintosh is exposed to rain or any other excess
moisture
n
your Macintosh has been dropped or the case has been
other
wise damaged
n
you suspect that your Macintosh needs ser
vice or repair
n
you want to clean the case (use only the recommended
procedure described below)
For additional safety

Replace the back panel of the computer
, if you ever need to
remove it, before you use your computer
.
n
Never tur
n on your computer with any of the inter
nal parts
removed.
