1 - Installing FreeBSD on the RocketRAID 2224 Controller
If you would like to install FreeBSD onto arrays attached to the RocketRAID 2224 host adapter, please
follow the steps below.
Step 1 Prepare the Driver Diskette
When installing FreeBSD to a disk or array attached to the RR2224, you must prepare a RR2224 driver
diskette before starting the installation procedure.
First, obtain the driver diskette image file from the driver package.
In a DOS or Windows system, create the boot diskette using the rawrite.exe utility. This utility can be
found on the FreeBSD CD (under \tools). Run it under a DOS-Prompt window and follow it’s prompt.
On a FreeBSD system, use the “dd” command to make the driver diskette. For example, Insert a floppy
disk into the floppy drive and type the following command (if you are installing FreeBSD 5.x versions):
# dd if=freebsd_5.x.img of=/dev/fd0
Step 2 Install FreeBSD
1. Start the FreeBSD installation procedure by booting from installation CD.
2. If you are installing FreeBSD 5.0 or earlier versions, skip this step. When the “Welcome to FreeBSD”
screen appears, select “6”.
3.
When the “Hit [enter] to boot immediately or any other key for command prompt” screen appears,
press the SPACE key to stop the loader from autobooting.
