Purpose
Procedure
Disaster Planning
Under certain conditions a patient may experience an emergency (such as respiratory failure or
cardiac arrest). In this instance it is necessary to access the patient quickly and possibly remove the
patient from the bed safely.
NOTE: At least 2 people are needed for quick access and possible exit.
Should disaster strike such as an earthquake or fire, have a disaster plan ready.
Emergency Patient Access and Exit
1. Access the patient.
2. Exit patient, if necessary
Transfer patient to stretcher or wheelchair.
a. Position the bed so it can be accessed from all
four (
4) sides.
b. Lock the hospital bed casters.
c. Lower the head and knee so the mattress is
flat.
d. Unclip the Quick-Release Buckles.
e. Unzip
ALL panels.
f. Attend to the patient.
