The Posey Torso Cushion is designed to position the patient comfortably, and
support the patient’s head and torso when the head of a hospital bed is down.
The Posey Torso Cushion may also be used as an alternative for certain at-risk
patients who may be at risk of serious injury or death from entrapment in the
“gaps” or “pockets” at the head of the Posey Bed when the head of the bed is
raised. Materials used meet California #117, Section E Flame Retardancy Standards.
Posey recommends that you leave the head of the bed down (flat) and use the
Posey Torso Cushion in the Posey Bed if you need to elevate the head or torso of
an at-risk patient (for example, for watching TV or if required by the physician’s
orders or the care plan).

At-Risk Patients Include
• Patients who, because of mental or physical disability, cannot reposition or
remove him or herself from a confined area in the bed.
• Any other patient identified by the physician, the care plan, or Interdisciplinary
Healthcare Team (IDHT) to be at risk of entrapment in the gaps created when
the head of the Posey Bed is up.
Instructions for Use:
1. Lower the head of the mattress to a flat position.
2. Place the Posey Torso Cushion on the bed at the head area.
3. Based on the patient’s needs, the cushion can be positioned at a 30 degree
angle, or turned over to create a 60 degree angle.
The Posey Torso Cushion is designed for use when the head of the bed is down
(flat). If the head of the bed is raised, creating “gaps” or “pockets” between the
mattress and side rail or mattress and side panel of the Posey Bed, use Posey Filler
Cushions (Cat. No. 8021) to help reduce the risk of entrapment.
REMOVE the Posey Torso Cushion when not in use.
Laundering Instructions:
