Control unit.
custom access
A feature that allows a non-administrator to be assigned update access to one or more of the
restricted Remote Web Console functions.

Direct access storage device.
DKCMAIN
Disk controller main.

ESCON
Enterprise systems connection An optical interface used to connect the mainframe to the control
unit; a predecessor to FICON.

Floppy disk.
FD copy
Floppy disk copy.

LBA
Logical block address.
LD, LDEV
Logical device. An LDEV is created when a RAID group is carved into pieces according to the
selected host emulation mode (that is, OPEN-3, OPEN-8, OPEN-9). The number of resulting LDEVs
depends on the selected emulation mode. The term LDEV is also known as term volume.
LU
Logical unit.
LUN
Logical unit number.
LUN Manager
Remote Console software option.
LUSE
Logical Unit Size Expansion. The LUSE feature is available when the HP StorageWorks LUN
Manager product is installed, and allows a LUN, normally associated with only a single LDEV,
to be associated with 1 to 36 LDEVs. Essentially, LUSE makes it possible for applications to access
a single large pool of storage.
LVI
Logical volume or image (for example, 3390-3R).

MIB
Management information base. A database of managed objects accessed by network management
protocols. An SNMP MIB is a set of parameters that an SNMP management station can query
or set in the SNMP agent of a network device (for example, a router).
P
parity group
A set of hard disk drives that have the same capacity and that are treated as one group. A parity
group contains both user data and parity information, which enables user data to be accessed
if one or more drives in the group is not available.

Remote service information message.
