Server virtualization detection and support

Windows® PSP supports server virtualization that runs on a Windows® host. However, Windows® PSP

does not run on a VMware host or on a guest operating system environment regardless of what host
hypervisor you use. Windows® PSP does not boot to a guest operating system environment.

Deploying PSPs for Linux

Separate PSPs are currently shipped for each supported distribution and version of Linux. Each PSP

includes the software appropriate for the supported distribution and version of Linux. The PSPs support 32-
bit and x86-64-based installations on both AMD®- and Intel®-based servers.
Starting with the 8.40 version of the PSP for Linux, the deployment utility contained on the PSP transitioned
from the LDU to HP SUM. HP SUM still enables the customer to choose the components that they want to
install. As with the LDU, the default setting within HP SUM installs all available components. Additionally,

the HP SUM utility enables software deployment for multiple HP ProLiant servers from a single GUI.
Differences from previous Linux PSP versions:

HP SUM no longer determines the necessity of a reboot based on component selection and

installation, but HP SUM provides an interface.

Some of the Linux RPMs require the target server to be rebooted after the RPM is installed. The No

Reboot needed message is reported on the Installation Results screen. Therefore, HP recommends

that you reboot the target server after installation of any Linux RPMs.
The following RPMs require a reboot:

o

HP ProLiant Smart Array Controller Driver - Cpq_cciss

o

HP U320 SCSI Adapter, SAS HBA with RAID, SCxxXe and SCxxGe series HBA Driver - Mptlinux

o

HP Smart Array B110i SATA RAID Controller Driver - Hpahcisr

o

HP NC-Series Broadcom 1/10 GbE Multifunction and iSCSI Drivers for Linux

o

HP NC-Series ServerEngines be2net 10GbE Driver for Linux

o

HP NC-Series Intel® E1000 Driver for Linux

o

HP NC-Series Intel® E1000e Driver for Linux

o

HP NC-Series Intel® igb Driver for Linux

o

HP NC-Series Mellanox 10GbE Driver for Linux

o

HP NC-Series QLogic Driver for Linux

o

HP NC-Series Broadcom TG3 Driver for Linux

o

QLogic iSCSI Driver for Linux

HP SUM attempts to install all of the RPMs in the Linux PSP. HP recommends that you select only

those components necessary for each environment.

You must make changes to the necessary libraries so that HP SUM executes. You might have to

install several new RPMs before all RPMs included in the Linux PSP can be deployed successfully.
(Prerequisite RPMs and platform-specific compatibility libraries are listed in the "Minimum

requirements for Linux servers (on page

12

)" section).
