Appendix A
PCFORMAT Error Messages
066374 Tandem Computers Incorporated
A–1
General
This appendix lists the error and warning messages that can be produced
by PCFORMAT. Error messages are more serious than warning messages,
and typically explain why a COPY command did not execute. Warning
messages usually explain why the content of the output file from
PCFORMAT may differ from the expected.
Error Messages
A banner and error message are written to the “OUT file” designated in the
COPY command (or to the home terminal by default) when PCFORMAT
detects an error condition. If the error is fatal, a “PCFORMAT terminated”
message is also produced.
The error message may precede or follow the banner depending on
whether the error was encountered by the system sequential I/O (SIO)
procedures. SIO error messages precede the banner; PCFORMAT error
messages follow the banner. An example of both types of messages
follows:
PCFORMAT error message:
PCFORMAT T9106A21 - (15OCT84)
banner
Invalid record name
PCFORMAT terminated
SIO error message:
FILE OPEN ERROR - $VOL.SUBVOL.FILE - file in use (12)
PCFORMAT T9106A21 - (15OCT84)
PCFORMAT terminated
Command Line Errors
When a error is detected in the PCFORMAT COPY command line, a
message immediately explains the error. If “PCFORMAT” is entered alone
without any COPY parameters, the following appears:
use: copy (format
If something else is wrong with the command, a “^” symbol normally
appears under the error and one of the messages in Table A-1 appears.
