The remainder of this section shows how PCFORMAT and IXF work
together to convert and transfer a Tandem database file to a 654X
PC-compatible application. Lotus 1-2-3 is the application used in this
example, however; the emphasis here is on the role of PCFORMAT and IXF
and not the details of the application.
Figure 2-1 gives you a general idea of what will be accomplished in this
example. If you plan to perform the procedure on your 654X workstation
and host system, you will need the following:
MS-DOS, MS-DOS supplemental, IXF, and Lotus 1-2-3 diskettes
Formatted data diskette to hold converted file for Lotus 1-2-3
Access to Tandem database file(s) and dictionary

1. Boot MS-DOS
2. Run EM653X
3. Log onto the host system
4. (Optional)
Look at database record
Look at database file (using ENFORM)
5. Run PCFORMAT to convert database file
6. Return to MS-DOS
7. Run IXF to get converted file
8. Run Lotus 1-2-3 and import converted file
