4 Operation

4.1 Starting Up

1. Allow the M310 to warm-up to room temperature for at least two hours after

unpacking and prior to applying power to remove any condensation.

2. Connect the power cable to a VAC service that matches the power requirement

specification noted in the Technical Data section and on the Specification Label
located on the rear of the M310.

3. Power the M310 by turning on the power switch on the front panel. The controller will

go into self test mode, the fan in the rear will start-up and the blackbody will start to go
the temperature setpoint that was last used prior to power down. The upper RED display
is the current emitter temperature. The lower GREEN display is the setpoint
temperature.

Warning: Do not connect or disconnect while power is on.

4.2 Changing the Setpoint

To change the temperature setpoint (green display), Press either the UP/DWN buttons on the
controller. Each press will advance the setpoint 1 degree. To advance faster, press and hold for 5
seconds until it advances a few degrees/second. Let go when it is near the desired setpoint. Press
again to bring it to the exact value desired. Note that this setpoint will be retained when power
is turned off.

4.3 Shutting Down

Turn off power using the power ON/OFF switch.

Warning: DO NOT UNPLUG THE M310! The blackbody has a temperature

controlled cooling fan that remains active until the enclosure temperature is

below about 140°F. If the power is interrupted by external means, this cooling will
not occur and the devices in the enclosure may overheat. If power fails during high

temperature use, remove the top, rear cover plate to allow better convection cooling
until the blackbody is cool.
