2.5 Intel® ICH7M Southbridge Chipset
The Intel® ICH7M Southbridge chipset is connected to the Intel® 945GSE Northbridge
through the chip-to-chip Direct Media Interface (DMI). The Intel® ICH7M provides the I/O
capabilities to the system.
All the connections on the Intel® ICH7M are wired through the COM Express connectors
to connectors on the carrier board. Some of the features of the Intel® ICH7M are listed
below. The connections from the Intel® ICH7M are shown in Figure 2-4.

ƒ Complies with PCI Local Bus Specification, Revision 2.3 and supports
33 MHz PCI operations
ƒ Supports ACPI Power Management Logic

o Enhanced DMA controller

ƒ Integrated SATA host controller with DMA operations interfaced to two SATA
connectors on the ICE-945GSE
ƒ Integrated IDE controller supports Ultra ATA 100/66/33
ƒ Supports the four USB 2.0 devices on the ICE-945GSE with four UHCI
controllers and one EHCI controller
ƒ Complies with System Management Bus (SMBus) Specification, Version 2.0
ƒ Supports Audio Codec ’97 (AC’97) Revision 2.3
