SF/PB 250 Armature Release Spring
Installation Instructions
P-1367
819-0029
Failure to follow these
instructions may result in product damage,
equipment damage, and serious or fatal
injury to personnel.
In the normal installation of a size 250 clutch or
brake, no provision is made to provide a positive
clearance between friction surfaces. Installation of
the release springs, as described below, will
maintain a clearance between the armature and
rotor or replaceable face when the unit is
de-energized. This feature will eliminate the
objectionable noise or drag often developed in
units without the release springs.
The instructions which follow, apply to armature
hubs which have a snap ring groove wide enough
only for the snap ring and the release spring.
Accessory No. 5103-101-003 contains 2 release
springs for size 250.
The following steps should be followed for
installation:
1. Insert the hub (clutch hub or clutch coupling
hub) with snap ring intact, into the armature
from the backing plate side as shown. Place
the assembly segmented side down.
(See Figure 1)
Figure 1
2. Insert both release springs into the holes of the
armature backing plate as shown in figure 2.
Bow the springs as necessary to insert into the
armature. The springs are curved in the free
state. The curve at the center of the spring will
bear against the snap ring when in place.
Figure 2
3. Slide armature and hub assembly on the shaft
until the armature is in contact with the mating
rotor or replaceable face. Then slide armature
hub back approximately 1/32'' for free running
clearance as shown. (See Figure 3)
Figure 3
With the armature hub secured to the shaft and
the coil de-energized, the springs will return the
armature axially on the spline until it makes
contact with the snap ring.
