Cable/DSL
This field indicates the Internet connection status. Its value is
Connected , Disconnected or Connecting.
WAN IP
Connected to the Internet through Cable or ADSL modem, the ISP will
offer the home gateway a WAN IP address to communicate with other
hosts in the Internet.
Subnet Mask
This field indicates a
83 H8 3 H83H
mask
used to determine what
8 4 H8 4 H84H
subnet
the WAN
85 H8 5 H85H
IP
address
belongs to. An
8 6 H86 H86H
IP address
has two components, the network
address and the
87 H8 7 H87H
host
address. For example, consider the IP address
192.168.168.182 with subnet mask is 255.255.255.0, the first three
numbers (192.168.168) represent the Class C network address, and the

8 8 H8 8 H88H
host on this network.
Gateway
“Gateway” is a
89 H8 9 H89H
node
on a
90 H9 0 H90H
network
that serves as an entrance to another
9 1 H9 1 H91H
network
. For the home gateway, The “Gateway” is the next device,
which routes the traffic to the Internet.
DNS
Domain Name System (or Service or Server) is an Internet service that
translates domain names into IP addresses. Because the domain names
are alphabetic, they are easier to remember. However, the Internet is
based on
9 2 H9 2 H92H
IP addresses
. Every time you use a domain name, a
9 3 H9 3 H93H
DNS
service must translate the name into the corresponding IP address. For
example, the domain name www.example.com might translate to
198.105.232.4. The DNS system has its own
94 H9 4 H94H
network
. If one
9 5 H95 H95H
DNS
server
doesn't know how to translate a particular domain name, it will ask
its upper stream server, and so on, until the correct IP address is returned
or timed-out.
Secondary DNS
This is the secondary DNS to use when the primary DNS does not work.
Domain Name
Domain name is a name, which identifies one or more IP addresses. This
field represents the domain name obtained from your ISP.
