OUTBACK RACK ROOF MOUNTS
INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
Read all instructions before proceeding.
While the weight capacity of our cargo basket exceeds 400 lbs., with weight distributed evenly
over the entire area of the rack, you should refer to your vehicle manual for the load capacity of the
roof of your vehicle, and be guided by those constraints.
1. Assemble all Roof Mounts by attaching the hinge brackets to the outside of the “short” side of the “L” Brackets
using two (2) 5/16” x _” bolts, washers, lock washers, and hex nuts.
2. Attach the assembled Roof Mounts to the bottom of the Basket on the mounting plates using two (2) 5/16” x _”
bolts, washers, lock washers, and hex nuts.
3. With help, place the basket assembly on top of the vehicle. Position the basket on the roof according to your
preference. Adjust the Roof Mounts, in or out, as needed. Mark through the hinged part of the Roof Mount,
onto the roof to prepare for drilling.
4. With help, remove the basket from the roof of your vehicle and remove the Roof Mounts.
5. Mark the center of each circle drawn on your roof. Drill holes using a _” drill bit and a “drill stop” that will
ensure the bit goes no more than _” through your top. (this is only important if you have a separated headliner
inside the vehicle) There should be two (2) holes drilled for each Roof Mount. The holes must be perfectly
round and free of jagged edges that might damage the well nut. Insert a well nut into each hole.
6. Reposition the Roof Mounts onto the roof aligning the holes in the hinged portion with the holes you drilled.
Attach them to the roof by screwing the _” x _” bolts, lock washers and flat washers, through the holes in the
hinged portion of the Roof Mounts into the well nuts. Slowly and carefully tighten each bolt into the well nut
until it expands and grips the roof top. The bolt is tight enough when you can no longer lift the Roof Mount
away from the roof. Be careful not to over-tighten.
7. Reposition the Basket onto the Roof Mounts and re-bolt the Basket to the mounts. Be aware of any excessive
pulling on the Roof Mounts as the bolts attaching the Basket are tightened, to avoid damaging the vehicle roof.
8. If headliner is a “substructure” not glued to the inner roof, you may want to have a professional top installer
remove it before installation, and replace it when you are done.
