Resetting BIOS passwords

To reset BIOS passwords, you must either reset and clear all BIOS settings, or use the Clear
Password jumper. To reset all BIOS settings, follow the instructions in

“Resetting BIOS passwords”

on page 50

.

To clear the BIOS password(s):

Follow the instructions in

“Preventing static electricity discharge” on page 18

. Make sure

that you turn off the server, then unplug the power cord(s) and all other cables connected
to the server.

Follow the instructions in

“Opening the server case” on page 19

.

Remove the jumper across pins 1-2 of header J54-A, then place the jumper across pins 2-3.

Follow the instructions in

“Closing the server case” on page 24

.

Reconnect the power cords and turn on the server. The BIOS password(s) is cleared.

Turn off the server, then disconnect the power cords and all other cables connected to
the server.

Follow the instructions in

“Opening the server case” on page 19

.

Place the jumper back onto pins 1-2.

“Closing the server case” on page 24

Updating or recovering the BMC

Updating or recovering the BMC firmware

To update or recover the BMC firmware:

Download the BMC firmware zip file from

support.gateway.com

.

Read the release notes for the firmware update.

Follow the instructions on the Web site or in the readme.txt file in the downloaded zip file
to update the firmware.

When the BMC update is complete, reboot your server.

Caution

Moving the jumper while the power is on can damage your server. Always

turn off the server and unplug the power cords and all other cables before changing
the jumper.
