9. Install and Format a Memory Card
1. Always turn off the camera
and wait for the Power and
Memory lights to turn off,
then open the Battery/
Memory card door.
2. Insert the memory card in
the small slot above the battery as shown. Make sure the
memory card snaps into place.
3. Close the Battery/Memory card door and turn on the
camera.
To help prevent corrupted cards and images, you should
format memory cards before you use them for the first time.
1. With the camera turned on, press
, then use to
move to the Playback Menu .
2. Use to highlight Delete, then press .
3. Use to highlight Format Card, then press .
4. Press to highlight Yes, then press to format the
card. When the camera has completed formatting, the
Total Images Summary screen displays (see page 85).
Once installed, new images and video clips are stored on
the memory card, not in internal memory. For information
about supported memory cards, see Storage on page 185.
To use internal memory and view images stored there,
remove the memory card (turn off the camera, open the
Battery/Memory card door, and press down on the top edge
of the card to free it). You can also transfer the images from
internal memory to a memory card (see page 123).
NOTE: You can also format a memory card using your
computer (see page 127).
