Spark Plug Index Shims - Installation Instructions:
(Shims are intended for 14mm flat seat spark plugs only)
• Inspect all spark plugs for any damage such as cracked/broken porcelain.
• Gap each spark plug to desired specifications.
• Compress factory washer to a minimum of 30 ft. lbs. of torque. Be careful not to compress further once
shims have been added and spark plug is installed in cylinder head. An indexing nut or a steel block with
proper threads works well for this saving wear and tear on cylinder head threads.
• Mark ground location on surface of white porcelain with a black marker.
• Thread spark plug into cylinder head, tighten to manufacturer’s specs. If manufacturer’s specs are
unknown, 20 ft. lbs. of torque is recommended.
• Line up the arrow on dial chart in same direction as the spark plug ground mark to determine shims
needed to position the ground at desired angle.
• Thread required shims onto spark plug and install.
• Tighten spark plug to same manufacturer’s specs determined in above step.
