USB Connection
Make sure that the SMS226 (as well as your computer) is powered ON and then connect to your computer
using a "B" type connector on the front panel of the SMS226. You can use a USB 1.1 or USB 2.0 connection.
Run the interface program. You will find a button in the upper right hand corner labeled "Connect" in gray
text. Clicking on this button will start the connection process. If the "Connected" button text lights RED and the
graphics display on the SMS226 shows the "SMS226 - Sys Online" message the PC has successfully
connected to the unit.
You may be prompted with a dialog about choosing a COM port to use for the connection. The software
defaults to COM 1. If this port is being used on your PC you will have to select another port (2-15) to use. Use
the Windows device manager (available from the Control Panel) to identify which port is being used by the
SMS226 (identified by the "USB Serial Port (COM4) in Figure 3 below). Select the correct port in the SMS226
COM port dialog to proceed. If you are successful the "Connect" button test will change to RED.
