7. SAMPLING
7.1 General Sampling Considerations
Before sampling, ensure that the sampling pump is fully charged to enable an
8-hour run time, especially for filters giving a high initial pressure drop.
The Apex and Apex Pro pumps are designed to work at a maximum
efficiency for flow rates of between 0.5 and 5 l/min.
The sampling head should be worn as near to the nose and mouth as
possible, as shown in Figure 19. It can be clipped to the OUTSIDE of a breast
pocket or to the lapel of a jacket. A harness is available to hold the equipment
in the correct position.
Note that the sampler should never be run without a filter on the inlet.
7.2 Static Sampling
Static or fixed-point sampling is possible using a personal pump and sampling
head. It will only give a rough estimate of total inhalable or respirable dust.
Note that a suitable support stand is required when performing static
sampling with a personal pump,
