Classic Analog Voice -
Atypicalvoiceonavintageanalogsynthesizerusually
startswithtwoormoreVCOswiththeirpitchintervals
preset.ThewavefromsoftheVCOsaremixedtogether
andsenttoaVCF,followedbyaVCA.Amodular
synthesizergivestheuserthefreedomtobuild
complexanalogvoices.Onamodular,avoiceisnot
presetandcanbemadeofseveralVCOsandother
modules.Thisallowsforavarietyofsynthesis
techniqueswhichcanbemixedintoasingleoutput.
FM Operators Voice -
Thetermoperatorisusedtodescribeacomplex
digitalFMvoicestructure.Anoperatorisasynthesizer
patchconsistingofseveraltonegenerators,each
modulatedthroughVCAsthatarecontrolledby
envelopegenerators(EGs).Anoperatoralsoincludesa
mixertocombinethetonesintoasingleoutput.The
gainofthemixerchannelsaredynamicallycontrolled
byadditionalEGs.Thisentirestructuregenerates
complexsoundtexturesthatevolvewithtime.
Bothanaloganddigitalvoicestructuringrelyheavily
onthearrangementoffrequencyratiostogenerate
harmonicandinharmonicvoices.TheZ3000isthe
idealtoolforbothoftheseformsofvoicestructuring,
asitallowstheusertoquicklyandeasilysetthe
frequencyratiosofanyofthesound-generating
modulesbeingusedinagivenvoiceandtheZ3000’s
HardSyncModulationallowsforsimpleandeffective
managementofcomplexvoicestructures.
