Generallyspeaking,whenemployingFMtheory,linear
modulationprovidestheonlytrueformofmodulation
andhasmorepredictableresultsandproducesless
inharmonicmaterialthanexponentialFMdoes.
ToimplementabasicFMpatch,plugthesinewave
fromoneZ3000intotheLinearFMinputofasecond
Z3000.Frequencymodulatedsoundsbecomemore
complexasmoremodulatorsandcarriersareadded
toapatch,whetherinseriesorinparallel.Pairsof
modulatorsandcarriersarecalled“operators”and
usuallyincludeVCAsandenvelopegeneratorsto
dynamicallyvarythemodulationindexovertime.
