OVERCAST STRETCH
STITCHING
This Is the same type of stitch used bv
the garment industry iti making sports
wear. It is used for seams of 3 / 8 ' to
1 /4". The seam is formed and finished
in one operation. It must be used wheh
you are making swimwear, ski pants
and other garments that require stretch.
Fig. 1 shows the raw edge finished.
Stitch so the needle pierces the fabric
just short of the outside edge.
Raw or worn edges of older garments
can be overcast to prevent further
raveling.

Zigzag Needle Plate
This is a good stitch to use in making or
repairing lingerie. The stitch is decora
tive as well as useful. Simply stitch
the elastic into place around the waist
of the garment, making sure that the
elastic is evenly spaced. To do this
mark the correct length piece into
quarters and match these markings
with center front and back of the gar
ment as well as side seams.
