The large rider weight produces a load of 100 grams
per increment

The small rider weight produces a load of 25 grams
per increment
•
Attach the rider weight(s) to the scale arm with
the arrow pointing left to the desired scale marker

•
Place your hand on the roller carriage with thumb and
forefinger over the roller closest to the scratching tool
•
Apply sufficient downward pressure so that the end of
the scale arm is lifted off the surface into an approximately
horizontal position
•
While maintaining downward pressure pull the roller
carriage in the direction opposite the scale arm
Example:
Adhesion = The force required to scrape a path through the film,
when the stylus begins its motion on an uncoated portion of the panel
Scratch Hardness = The force necessary to cut through the film to the
substrate.
total load = (100 X 15) + (25 X 7) = 1675 grams
