Digital Hybrid
The DH 1e Digital Hybrid is an optional module, included
in the ECM 64eAD. This internal module allows audio
conferencing over a standard POTS 2-wire phone line. A 32
millisecond Line Echo Canceller is utilized to remove line
echo caused by the four-wire to two-wire conversion. In a
standard telephone the echo caused by this conversion is
actually beneficial to the user as side-tone. With a conference
system line echo can cause all types of problems including
feedback and echo canceller problems.
When the Digital Hybrid is in an Off Hook state, the ECM
64e is in a conference call using the telephone line. During Off
Hook, the RJ 11 connector labeled PHONE is disconnected
from the telephone line that is connected to the LINE connec-
tor. The term ‘Off Hook’ represents the handset being re-
moved from the hook switch.
For best performance, always connect the RJ 11 connector
labeled LINE directly to a POTS-type line by itself. Do not
connect other equipment such as phones and modems in
parallel or in front of the ECM 64e. Only connect other
equipment to the RJ 11 connector labeled PHONE.
Features include:
• Auto-Answer and Ring Detect
• Auto Disconnect
• Off Hook status
• DTMF Dialing with six programmable speed numbers
• DTMF Decoding (See Opstat page Manual-19)
You can check the status of the digital hybrid in
Device >
Peripheral Status. If operating properly the Digital Hybrid’s
Rev level is displayed. Otherwise, Peripheral Status displays
Not Installed.
When the DH 1e is installed, the Limiter is always
enabled. no matter how the Limiter’s checkbox is set. The DH
1e always limits the phone line to –10 dBm. Setting the
Hybrid’s Output Trim above –10 dB causes any audio levels
above –10 dBm to become compressed. Note that setting the
Output Trim to –4 dB (adding 6 dB of compression) increases
the level of softer talkers.
The
Auto Disconnect checkbox tells the ECM 64e to
monitor the phone line for loss of DC voltage and the lack of
received audio within three minutes. If any of these two
actions occur, the ECM 64e instructs the Digital Hybrid to go
On Hook. Always use
Auto Disconnect when setting the
Digital Hybrid in Auto Answer. You may want to disable Auto
Disconnect once you have placed a call. There is always the
possibility that the ECM 64e may disconnect the call when
you are not expecting it.
For Rev 1.2 or greater there are added special function
DTMF dialing operators:
