on the appliance. Do not place the appliance or any part of it in an automatic
dishwasher.
3. Before first use and after a longer period of storage, clean the appliance and all accessories.
(See: “Care and Cleaning“)
Before cooking, insert the plug into the outlet on the body, and the power supply plug into the
socket outlet.
First Heating
Prior to initial operation, the protective layer of the heating elements has to be burned in. This
could cause a fine smoke haze, due to the first heating of some of the components. There is
no need for concern. To prevent smell and taste of your food from being affected, you should
heat the appliance on the maximum position of both heating control dials for 10 minutes before
placing any food on the grill plates. If the smoke haze occurs again later on, thoroughly clean
the appliance according to the instructions in section “Care and Cleaning“.
CAUTION: Do not operate the appliance without the grill plates properly in place. When the
fondue pot is inserted during operation, there must be a minimum amount of liquid in the fondue
pot (at least 150 ml).
4. Place the raclette on a suitable, stable and heat-resistant surface and prepare the raclette for
use (See: “Operation“). Pour ca. 250 ml water in the fondue pot, and WITH the grill plates
and fondue pot properly in place, make the appliance ready for use. (See: “Operation“)
5. Set both heating control dials to maximum position, heating the appliance to full power for
about 10 minutes. (See: “Operation“) It is quite normal, if slight and harmless smokes and smells
are generated for a short while.
Note: If the burnt smell occurs again on later use, clean the appliance. (See: “Care and
Cleaning“) If the burnt smell persists stubbornly even after thoroughly cleaning the appliance,
return the appliance to an authorized service centre for examination and repair.
Preparing the Non-Stick Coating
WARNING: Do not touch the grill plates when the appliance is still hot! Switch OFF, unplug
and let the appliance cool down, before touching the grill plates.
6. Turn both heating control dials to the OFF position (“–”), unplug and let the appliance cool
down to room temperature.
7. Spread a little cooking oil (only some droplets) on the coated upper side of the grill plates
and distribute it with clean kitchen paper on the non-stick coating. Rub it dry.
8. Rub the interior of the raclette dishes with oil in the same way.
Now the appliance is ready for use.
