Set Marker Extension
Marker Extension
Refer to Figure 31
To adjust marker extension, loosen hex nuts
. Move
marker extension tube
in or out to get the proper
adjustment.
To measure for marker extension adjustment:
1.
Lower drill in the field and drive forward a few feet.
2.
Measure from the center-line of the outside row to
the mark in the ground made by marker disk.
3.
Adjust as needed.
Marker Setup
The drill must be leveled per “Leveling the Drill” in the
Operator manual, and marker(s) must be in correct
working order per “Marker Maintenance” in that manual.
Row unit centerline stations on 3S-5000/F/HD/HDF drills
are symmetrical about machine center, so left and right
extensions are normally identical, for both opposing and
concentric passes.
Set the initial length of the marker(s) as follows:
1.
Lower drill and openers to field position.
2.
Extend a marker on one side. Pull forward several
feet to leave a mark.
3.
Sighting parallel to the main tool bar, measure from
the centerline of the outside row unit to the mark.
4.
Adjust the marker extension
so that the mark is
one half
the span
plus one row unit spacing
.
5.
Pull forward several feet or meters, and re-measure
to verify any adjustment. Validate the mark by
making a pass to one or both sides.
6.
Fold marker. Extend other side and adjust.

Sharp Object Hazard:
Be careful when working near the marker discs.
The edges may be sharp.
Note: If initially set on pavement, or with drill raised,
marker extension needs to be re-checked in field
conditions. When lowered in field conditions, the
mount/first-section pivot points are lower, and the
discs further out by a small amount.
Note: If field conditions require inverting the marker disk
(page 18), the mark moves, and the extension
needs to be re-measured and reset. Marking also
changes slightly if the opener frame trunnion
position is changed.
