Fertilizer Rate
The YP30A or YP40A planter optionally includes one or
two fertilizer manifolds:
Type 2 - single section, single inlet, and/or
Type 3 - three section, three inlet
and may include one ground-driven pump for the Type 2
manifold.
The Type 2 manifold may be supplied by passive tanks
on the planter, or tanks off the planter - for YP40A,
typically a semi-mounted (SML-) fertilizer cart or the 400
gallon tank on a trailing PFC2000 tank cart.
The Type 3 manifold is designed to use an off-planter
pumped tank - for YP40A, typically the PFC1600 or
PFC2000 tank cart.
Fertilizer rate is independent of seed rate. Fertilizer rates
are set by the pump system(s). On-planter ground drive
pump operations are described page 51 and in the
YP30A or YP40A Operator Manual. Off-planter pump
operations are described in the tank manual.
Manifold systems include orifice plates at each row unit
drop line. Each fertilizer system normally includes a
pressure relief valve and strainer. These components
affect consistency of flow across all rows.
Fertilizer Rate Steps
1.
Determine rate desired.
2.
Determine orifice plate size (page 49).
3.
Install orifice plates (page 50).
Skip this step if using VeriFlow nozzles.
4.
Shut off any unused rows (page 50).
5.
Check strainer mesh size (page 51).
6.
Set relief valve (page 51).
7.
Determine pump range and rate setting (page 51).
Note: Great Plains recommends checking with your local
Agronomist as soil conditions vary. Soil conditions
in your area may need lesser or more amounts of
fertilizer than represented in these charts. Do not
exceed 12 gallons/ac (112 liters/Ha) in any case.
Note: Always lock-up the ground drive when not in use.
Do not operate planter pump when not applying
material. See the planter Operator manual for lock-
up instructions.
