NOTE: Late model idle cables have a small spring at the
end. this spring has to be removed to install the idle cable
on the S&S
® VFI.
d. Neatly route the throttle cables to minimize bends.
e. Adjust throttle and idle cables after the manifold
and throttle body screws are tightened.
If the cruise control kit is used, ensure that the cruise
control arm does not contact the cylinder head. Open the
throttle to wide open, and check for interference. Early
S&S Cycle Big Fin heads will have interference with the
cruise control arm. Clearance cylinder head fins as
required. Failure to rectify any interference with the
throttle operation may result in personal injury and/or
property damage.
E. Engine Breathing Hose and Hardware installation
Read the descriptions of the four engine types listed below
to see which matches your engine, then install the
hardware and hoses accordingly. Use pictures under each
heading as a guide. There will be some parts left over.
Breathing systems are covered in this order:
1. Harley-Davidson ® Evolution ® engine.
2. Twin Cam 88 ® engine.
3. SSW+ Early Style (Crankcase engine breathing)
4. SSW+ Late Style (Cylinder head engine breathing)
The engine breathing hoses and hardware must be
installed for correct engine operation.
After completing the installation for your particular engine
configuration, proceed to section F.
The Induction system installation kit includes two plastic bags
containing hoses and fittings: Part number 31-2077 Case
Breather Kit, and Part number 17-0462 Breather Hardware
Kit. These kits contain several parts that look similar, but are
not interchangeable due to variations in the head breathing
hardware used with different induction system Installations.
1. Evolution ® engine breathing hose and
hardware installation.
a. Select hardware from included kit 17-0462 to
match layout as shown in Picture 16.
