9. Turn the eyelens of the eyepiece as far as it
will go in the "+" direction, without looking
into the eyepieces while doing so.
10. Look through the eyepieces and close one
eye.
11. With the other eye, monitor the specimen
and turn the eyelens of the eyepiece slowly
in the "–" direction, until this eye sees the
specimen sharply.
12. Repeat steps 10 and 11 with the other eye.

8. Set the lowest magnification level.

5. Observe the specimen through the eyepi-
