the list of search results, select a group name in your Inactive list. You cannot join a group that you already have active. To join

a group that is not listed in the left frame, select

Join new group

. To create a new group, select

Chatting in an IM group

To participate in an IM group chat, press Menu, select

View

>

Groups

, an IM group, and

Join

>

Open

. When you successfully join

an IM group chat, the active group chat view is displayed. The left frame is a list of groups that you have created, joined, or

bookmarked. The top frame is a conversation viewer with text of the group chat, and the bottom frame is a message editor

where you type text to participate in the group chat. In the active group chat view, the most common actions are to send an

IM message, to whisper to another IM group member, to invite another IM contact to join the group chat, or to leave the IM group.
Sending a message to the group - To send a message to the group during an active group chat, select the message editor, type

a message, and

Send

.

Whispering during a group chat - To whisper to another user during an active group chat, select a name in the

Conversations

folder in the left frame and

Whisper

.

Inviting a contact during a group chat - To invite a contact to an active group chat, select a name in the

Online contacts

folder

in the left frame, and

Invite

.

Leaving a group chat - To leave an active group chat, select

End

.

To participate in several active group chats at the same time, select

Switch convers.

Entering an IM group

To enter a group ID when you join an IM group for the first time, press Menu, select

View

>

Groups

>

Join new group

. Type a

group ID up to 50 characters in the format specified by your IM service, and select

OK

. A group ID may be in the format wv:

\[email protected].

Defining your screen name for a group chat

To identify yourself for an IM group chat, press Menu, select

View

>

Groups

, press Menu, and select

Tools

>

Preferences

>

Screen name

. By default, your user name appears to others in an IM group chat.

Select from the following:
• In a group — to select a type of name to identify you to a group. Your user name, a unique name that identifies you to the

IM service, cannot be changed.

• Screen name — to type a screen name up to 10 characters.

Creating an IM group

To create an IM group, press Menu in the groups main view, and select

Create group

. Type a name for the group and invite at

least one person to create the group. After you create a group, you can view the group properties and edit the group default

values.

Inviting several IM users to a group chat

The

Invitations

list is a master list of IM users to invite to a group chat. No one is invited to join a group chat until the invitations

are sent.
To invite a friend to a group chat, select

Invite friend

from the active group chat view. An

Invitations

list of IM users who have

been invited to participate is displayed. The list may identify users by IM user ID or personal screen name. Select

Invite

contact

to select users from your contact list or

Invite other

to add another user to the list. When the list of invitations is complete,

select

Send

.

Inviting your contacts to a group chat

You can invite someone on your contact list to participate in a group chat.
To select IM users from your contact list to invite to a group chat, select

Invite friend

from an active group chat, view the

Invitations

list, select

Invite contact

, scroll to an IM user in the

Invite online contact

list, and select

Mark

. When the list of IM users

to invite from your contact list is complete, select

Done

to return to the master

Invitations

list.
