5. Remove the riser card assembly where the PCI Express solid-state drive is installed and lay the riser
card assembly upside down on a flat, clean, and static-protective surface. See “Replacing the riser card
assembly 1” on page 176 or “Replacing the riser card assembly 2” on page 178.
6. If an expander card, an Ethernet card, or a RAID card is installed on the riser card assembly, you might
need to remove them first for easier operation. See “Installing or removing the expander card” on page
114, “Installing or removing an Ethernet card” on page 118, or “Removing the RAID card” on page 107.
7. Grasp the PCI Express solid-state drive by its edges and carefully pull it out of the PCI Express card slot.
Note: The PCI Express solid-state drive might fit tightly into the slot. If necessary, alternate moving
each side of the PCI Express solid-state drive a small and equal amount until it is completely removed
from the slot.

8. Touch the static-protective package that contains the new PCI Express solid-state drive to any
unpainted surface on the outside of the server. Then, take the new PCI Express solid-state drive out
of the package.
Installing, removing, or replacing hardware
