Step 3 Frame a Picture
1
Hold the camera steady.
• Keep fingers, hair, the camera strap, and other objects
away from the lens, flash, AF assist-illuminator,
microphone, and speaker.
• When taking pictures in portrait (“tall”) orientation, turn
the camera so that the flash is above the lens.
2
Frame the picture.
• When the camera detects a human face, that face is
framed by a yellow double border (focus area) (default
setting).
• Up to 12 faces can be detected. When the camera
detects more than one face, the face closest to the
camera is framed by a double border and the others by
single borders.
• When shooting non-human subjects or when no faces are detected, the focus area is
not displayed. Position the main subject near the center of the frame.

When Using a Tripod
• We recommend using a tripod to stabilize the camera in the following situations.
- When shooting in dimly lit conditions with the flash mode (
A 57) is set to W (off)
- When zooming in on the subject
• Set Vibration reduction to Off in the setup menu (
A 88) when using a tripod to stabilize the
camera during shooting.
