Topology

Standalone

The physical size and the number of topological elements in a 100BASE-
TX network is limited primarily by round-trip collision delay to 205
meters
. That is while the 100BASE-TX has 10 times faster bit rate than
10BASE-T, its duration of the JAM sequence is, therefore, 10 times shorter
(note: A JAM is a signal, in Ethernet, generated by a network interface to
let other interfaces in the network know that a collision has happened.).
Since 100BASE-TX and 10BASE-T have little difference on the cable
propagation delay, however, for the devices at the maximum distance to
detect the collision, the diameter of 100BASE-TX has to be smaller.

Figure 11 represents a sample standalone topology. All eight 10BASE-T
ports are available via the front panel RJ-45 connectors.
