Fiber Cable
Fiber optic technology allows for longer cabling than any other media
type (up to 2 kilometers/1.24 miles for 100 Mbps fiber at full-duplex). The
AT-8324SX switch can serve as a collapsed backbone, providing direct
connectivity for a widespread LAN. The 100 Mbps fiber module can be
used to interconnect remote Fast Ethernet segments, while the Gigabit
fiber module can be used to interconnect buildings in a campus setting.
The figure below illustrates an AT-8324SX switch connecting multiple
segments with fiber cable.
