TAILGATE LOCK
POWER
Model PL 8500 for the TOYOTA Tundra 1999-2006
Layout Parts Included:
Power Tailgate Lock Unit
Short Wiring Cable
Long Wiring Cable
Cable Ties
Blue Connector Taps
Tool Required:
Number 18 Torx Diver
10 MM Socket
Pliers
Small Screwdriver
Installation:
1. Remove Access Panel 2. Unclip both Latch Rods, lay them to the side
and remove the Driver Side Mounting Bolt
3. Remove the E-Ring and the original Lock
Link. Set the E-Ring aside.
4. Slide the POWER UNIT in towards thr driver’s
side.
5. Position the new Lock Link on the shaft of the
lock so that the white pin engages the slot.
Reinstall the E-Ring. Reinstall the Mounting Bolt.
7. Snake the Short Wiring Cable up a drainhole
of the tailgate and connect it to the POWER UNIT
maintaining green to green and brown to black.
Secure with a Cable Tie. Connect the other end
to the Long Wiring Cable. Locate the connector
so that it is accessible for tailgate removal. Run
the Long Wiring Cable inside the left frame rail to
the engine compartment and secure it with Cable
Ties. Snake it into the driver’s compartment
using the lead thrugh of the hood release cable
shown below..
8. Remove the left kick panel . 1999-2003 locate
the Wirinig harness leading to the left door and
attach one of the blue connector taps to the
Pink/Black Stripe wire and another one to the
Red/Orange Stripe wire. 2004-2006 Black/Red
Red/Black striped.
9. Plug the Brown end of the Long Wring Cable
into the connector around the Black/Yellow Stripe
wire and plug the Creen/Brown end into the
connector around the Blue/White Stripe wire.
10. TROUBLESHOOTING. The best way to
troubleshoot the unit is to take it out of the tailgate
and bring it forward into the driver’s compartment.
Once you have the unit in front of you it will be
easy to spot any mechanical malfunctioning and
switch around any wiring connections.

NOTE: Some 2004 Tundras have Blue/White striped and Black/Yellow striped wires.
