INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS
1. This Crossover is designed for cars with Long tube headers.
Start by removing your old crossover at the collector
reducers(front) and flow tubes.(back) We recommend an ample
dose of WD40 or other brand of penetrating oil to avoid stripping or
breaking the bolts at the header flanges. Remember to disconnect
your O2 sensor switches before dropping your existing crossover.
You must also disconnect the air tube located just behind the trans
mount on the passenger side pipe(pre 1996 models).
Note: There are no hangers included with the X pipe assembly.
They are not necessary. Because your Pypes X pipe is about 40
lbs lighter than the factory H pipe, the header flanges as well as the
muffler/tailpipe hangers are enough to support the entire system.
2. Your Pypes crossover is designed to fit Mac & BBK long tube
headers. Take some measurements and make sure the dimen-
sions match your crossover. If is doesn’t match your system, call
Pypes to discuss options. Install the X pipe kit from the headers
back. Do not fully tighten the X connections. Use a stand to keep
the X in place. When you are satisfied with the fit, tighten all
connections.
Note: With the off road X pipe the air tube does not need to be
reconnected. You may hear a slight whistling
sound because of
this open tube. It is not harmful to your vehicle. Do not plug this
tube. Rather weld or tie it out of the way of the X pipe. If you don’t
like the sound you will need to use high temperature flexible hose
and clamps (available at NAPA) to reconnect to the engine tube.
3. Start engine and listen and look for leaks. Black deposits at
any junctions indicate an exhaust leak.
4. After driving the car for approximately 50 miles, check the
system for any possible loose connections.
5. Highly modified vehicles with special timing modifications may
cause damage to the catalytic converters and is not covered under
the warranty.
The first time you warm up the exhaust system you will notice
quite a bit of white smoke. This is normal! It is the Mandrel
fluid used to bend the pipes that has not evaporated.
