1 Overview
HP StorageWorks SAN Designer provides a quick and easy way to design your Storage Area Network,
and obtain a SAN design along with a detailed list of SAN components for your requirements.
HP StorageWorks SAN Designer offers the following features:
• Provides an intuitive, simple, and easy to use, graphical user interface (GUI) to design Storage Area
Networks (SANs)
• Allows you to design SAN based on performance, cost, and future growth needs
• Simplifies initial SAN implementation and helps reduce SAN infrastructure cost and complexity
• Generates report containing SAN topology, device list, and a high level summary of the SAN
• Provides access to HP SAN design knowledge

This section discusses the hardware and software requirements for installing HP StorageWorks SAN
Designer.
• 25 MB of free disk space for installation
• To use HP StorageWorks SAN Designer, following are the necessary applications that need to be
installed on a host where HP StorageWorks SAN Designer is installed:
• Java 2 Runtime Environment (JRE), SE v1.5
• Microsoft Excel viewer
• Microsoft Visio viewer
