Glossary

Collector process

A Repository process that collects metrics for a monitored entity.

Execdirect

A SQL statement or call that executes a query directly, as opposed to using a previously prepared
statement.

Manageability
Repository

A database and related components for collecting metric data about resources on a Neoview
platform and making that data available to consumers, by means of APIs. Repository collectors
obtain information from metric providers and store the information in a Neoview SQL database.
The Repository manages the metric data stored in its database.

Metric Class

One of the metrics that come from a metric provider. Sometimes a metric provider supplies
only one metric class.

Metric Group

A unique name for the set of metrics that come from a single metric provider.

Metric Provider

An application, log file, stream, or script that provides metric data useful for manageability.
The metric provider is known to the Repository by a defined Metric Group name, which enables
the Repository to know how to connect to the metric provider and interpret the metric data.

NDCS

HP Neoview Database Connectivity Service. The ODBC server on a Neoview platform, which
provides the ODBC data sources.

NDCS Resource
Statistics

A set of data pertaining to queries or sessions, generated by the ODBC NDCS server.

NDCS Session

A connection by a user client to an ODBC NDCS server through JDBC or ODBC.

Node Entity

A monitored entity equivalent to a Neoview processing node (CPU).

ODBC

Open Database Connectivity, a widely accepted Microsoft API for interfacing to a variety of
database systems.

ODBC Statement

A SQL statement supplied by a connected user client for processing by the NDCS server.

Probe Interval

A configurable number of seconds that controls how often the Repository polls an external
process or subsystem for information about a monitored entity.

RMS

Runtime Manageability Services. Information about the execution of an SQL statement. This
information is provided by the Neoview SQL Executor.

Segment

One of the several major divisions of a Neoview platform. A segment has multiple CPUs, called
processing nodes. Multiple segments are networked together to create the Neoview platform.

Statistics
Gathering Process

A process, in the Neoview Management Dashboard, that collects data for a monitored entity
on the Neoview platform. For example, the Disk SGP collects information about disks.

View

In a database management system, a way of portraying information in the database. All user
access to Repository data is through views.
