Operation...
The air regulator knob can be used as an air throttle, if there are
no other means of regulating air. Turn the air regulator knob all the
way to highest position for maximum power.
The air regulator can be used to adjust torque to the ap prox i mate
tightness of a known fastener.
To set the tool to de sired torque, select a nut or screw of known
tight ness of the same size, thread pitch and thread con di tion as
those on the job. Turn air reg u la tor to low position, apply wrench
to nut and gradually increase pow er (turn regulator to admit more
air) until nut moves slightly in the di rec tion it was originally set. The
tool is now set to du pli cate that tight ness - note reg u la tor setting
for future use. When tight en ing nuts not requiring critical torque
values, run nut up flush and then tighten an additional one-quarter
to one-half turn (slight ad di tion al turning is necessary if gaskets
are being clamped). For additional power needed on dis as sem bly
work, turn regulator to its fully open position. This im pact wrench
is rated at 1/2" USS bolt size. Rating must be down graded for
spring U bolts, tie bolts, long cap screws, double depth nuts, badly
rusted conditions and spring fas ten ers, as they absorb much of the
impact power. When possible, clamp or wedge the bolt to prevent
springback.
Soak rusted nuts in pen e trat ing oil and break rust seal before
removing with im pact wrench. If nut does not start to move in three
to five sec onds, use a larger size impact wrench. Do not use impact
wrench be yond rated ca pac i ty, as this will dras ti cal ly reduce tool
life.
The forward/reverse lever is used to change the rotation of the tool.
When the lever is moved to the right, the tool is in a forward or right
hand rotation. When the lever is moved to the left, the ro ta tion is
reverse or left hand.
noTe: Actual torque on a fastener is directly related to joint
hardness, tool speed, condition of socket and the time the tool is
allowed to impact.
Use the simplest possible tool-to-socket hook up. Every connection
absorbs energy and reduces power.
Air Supply...
Tools of this class operate on a wide range of air pres sures. It is
recommended that air pres sure of these tools mea sures 90 PSI at the
tool while running free. Higher pres sure (over 90 psig; 6.2 bar) raises
per for mance beyond the rated capacity of the tool which will short en
tool life be cause of faster wear and could cause injury.
Always use clean, dry air. Dust, corrosive fumes and/or water in the air
line will cause damage to the tool. Drain the air tank daily. Clean the
air inlet filter screen on at least a weekly schedule. The rec om mend ed
hookup pro ce dure can be viewed in figure 1.
The air inlet used for connecting air supply, has standard 1/4" NPT.
Line pressure should be increased to compensate for unusually long
air hoses (over 25 feet). Minimum hose diameter should be 3/8" I.D.
and fittings should have the same inside dimensions and be tightly
secured.
Lubrication...
Lubricate the air motor daily with quality air tool oil. If no air line oiler
is used, run 1/2 ounce of air tool oil through the tool by squirting oil
into the tool's air inlet or into the nearest connection to the air inlet,
reconnecting air supply, and then running tool. Do not use more than
1/2 ounce of oil, as overfilling will reduce the performance of the
tool.
Troubleshooting...
Other factors outside the tool may cause loss of power or erratic
action. Reduced compressor output, excessive drain on the air line,
moisture or restrictions in air pipes or the use of hose connections
of improper size or poor conditions may reduce air supply. Grit or
gum deposits in the tool may cut power and may be corrected by
cleaning the air strainer and flushing out the tool with gum solvent
oil or an equal mixture of SAE #10 and kerosene. If outside conditions
are in order, disconnect tool from hose and take tool to your nearest
authorized service center.
