Remote Control via Simple Instruction Set (SIS

)

The SW8/12 VGA Ars switchers can be controlled via RS-232 using Extron’s Simple

Instruction Set (SIS) commands.
The RS-232 port communications protocols are: 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit,

no parity, and no flow control. Cable pinouts are shown in the table below.
Only pins 2, 3, and 5 are required. Disconnect all other conductors in the

Rules governing SIS commands include:

• SIS commands consist of one or more characters per field.
• No special characters are required to begin or end a command sequence.
• When a command is valid, the switcher executes the command and sends a

response to the host device.

• All responses from the switcher to the host end with a carriage return and a

line feed (CR/LF =

]

), which signals the end of a response character string.

• A string is one or more characters.

Switcher-initiated (unsolicited) messages

When a local event, such as a front panel operation or error condition, occurs, the

switcher responds by sending a message to the host. Switcher-initiated messages

are listed below:
